From Waccamaw to Hammock Coast: Golfing Excellence Continues

The Waccamaw Golf Trail, a collection of 12 award-winning courses located in historic Georgetown County, is rebranding itself as the Hammock Coast Golf Trail.

The rebrand takes advantage of the surging popularity of the “Hammock Coast” moniker that has served Georgetown County so well in recent years. The Hammock Coast is comprised of six coastal communities – Garden City, Murrells Inlet, Litchfield Beach, Pawleys Island, Georgetown, Andrews – many of which will be familiar to golfers.

Using the Hammock Coast name will increase awareness of the area’s many virtues on and off the course, as Georgetown County is one of South Carolina’s most popular vacation destinations, attracting travelers who enjoy the area’s casual charm.

While the Trail’s name may have changed, the quality of the courses and the experiences they provide are better than ever. The recently renovated Pawleys Plantation Golf & Country Club, Caledonia Golf & Fish Club, TPC Myrtle Beach, and True Blue join Blackmoor Golf Club, Wachesaw Plantation East, Litchfield Country Club, River Club, Willbrook Plantation, Tradition Club, Founders Club and Wedgefield Plantation as HCGT members.

The Hammock Coast Golf Trail allows players to book courses as golf-only and stay-and-play packages, ensuring it will continue to be among the Myrtle Beach area’s most popular offers.

As golfers make plans for their 2024 trip, Pawleys, a Jack Nicklaus design, is at the top of many must-play lists. Featuring new TifEagle bermudagrass greens that have been restored to their original size and specifications, and a total overhaul of the layout’s bunker complexes, Pawleys is in pristine condition, and it still features the stunning beauty it has long been known for.

Caledonia and True Blue, sister courses designed by the legendary Mike Strantz, are ranked among the nation’s top 100 resort courses by Golfweek, helping anchor the HCGT package alongside TPC Myrtle Beach, yet another top 100 caliber layout that has tested the game’s best players.

While the high-profile layouts attract much of the attention, what makes the HCGT special is the depth of its offerings. Tradition, Willbrook, River Club and Litchfield, all located within a Jon Rahm drive of one another, deliver the type of quality and value that have long made a golf trip to the Myrtle Beach area so special.

Wachesaw’s East course has hosted four LPGA events. Blackmoor is the area’s only Gary Player design. Founders Club, which features elevated fairways surrounded by waste bunkers, is one of the area’s most creative layouts. Wedgefield, the collection’s southernmost course, brings the beauty of the Black River into play.
